Who do I call for help?

It depends on the nature of your inquiry. For product or sales questions, or to place orders you would contact our Sales office in White Plains, NY (Eastern time zone): 1-800-873-2001 or 914-948-8117.

For technical service questions feel free to contact our service department at the factory location in Carol Stream, IL (near Chicago, in the Central time zone): 1-800-879-2001 or 630-653-3377.

Scale-Tronix products are rugged, reliable, and built to last. However if you have questions please call our Service department for most questions or problems can be resolved over the phone. You should have the scale close by when you call and be prepared with the model and serial number information before calling. If a scale or part must be returned it is necessary to call for a Return Authorization Number (RA) for tracking purposes. Additional information will be given to you at that time. It is important that all parts be shipped ONLY to the factory location, not the New York location. See the Contact page for additional details.

How about charging the battery?

Scales with rechargeable batteries are designed for continuous charging. There is no danger of overcharging. They should be left plugged in when not being used for weighing patients. If the battery is completely discharged, an overnight charge (10-14 hours) will bring it up to 100% capacity.

By the way, advances in the electronics over the years have now made it possible to eliminate the need for recharging on most of our "Second Generation Scales". Standard disposable alkaline flashlight batteries are now being used providing up to a year's worth of service without the bother of recharging.

What about recalibration?

Scale-Tronix electronic scales do not need frequent adjustments or calibration like mechanical scales since there are no moving parts in the weighing mechanism. However just like any precision instrument one should check the calibration periodically - usually once every year or two. This must be done with precision scale test weights. Physical therapy or traction weights are not accurate enough for this purpose and must not be used. Scale-Tronix sells test weights for this purpose. Contact our Service Department for details.

What about data output to a computer?

Most of our second generation scales are available with data output capability as an option. This can be used for a printer or computer interface. Contact our service department for additional information.

Can we add a printer to an existing scale?

Most of our second generation scales will accept the addition of a printer. Contact our service department for details.

My wheelchair is too big for the platform!?

Over the years wheelchairs have gotten bigger, and it's possible you've outgrown your scale. Some of our wheelchair scales can be updated to a larger platform. Contact our service department for additional information.

Can I upgrade my old scale?

We have a variety of upgrade and service kits available for all or our scales. For example, we have base and pump overhaul kits for the bedscales. Some of the older electronics can be upgraded to the new generation type, etc. Contact our service department for additional details.

What about replacement ni-cad battery packs?

We send out reminder letters when it's time to change your battery.

Ordering Information:
6 volt ni-cad battery pack (most common): Part No. 20009
7.2 volt ni-cad battery pack: Part No. 360007
Place orders with our New York location; supply scale serial number with order.

What about servicing the hydraulic pumps?

The pumps used on the SlingScales (2001, 2002, 2700) are a special sealed unit. It is better to replace it rather than attempt a repair. New pumps have a one year warranty. When ordering be sure to specify model and serial number of scale. Many times a pump problem can be solved by a simple adjustment of the control valve. Consult your service manual or contact our service department for details.

What about service manuals?

Scale-Tronix provides a combination operating and service manual with all products. Extra manuals are available; order through our New York office. Feel free to make a copy of the operation portion of the manual to send up to Nursing; you can keep the original in your service department.
